Molecule 03 is composed of pure and singular vetiveryl acetate. Vetiveril acetate could be described as a hybrid, half natural, half synthetic molecule. It is a fraction of vetiver oil, distilled from the roots of an Indian herb, which is then "crossed" with acetic acid to remove the bitter and leathery aspects of the root. The result is an elegant and refined molecule with the woody and slightly herbaceous character of vetiver, but much smoother and softer. "The acetylation also brings out the touch of grapefruit in the vetiver," says Geza Schoen, "giving a more bitter and fresher top note."
