Açai (pronounced “assaì”) is a palm of the Euterpe genus (E. oleracea) that grows mainly in the rainforests of Central and South America. Its fruits, called by the Indians "fruit of life", are berries that are highly appreciated and consumed as an energy food for their innumerable nutritional properties by the indigenous peoples of Brazil, Colombia and Suriname.
