Active principles

Acerola : fruit rich in numerous nutrients and phytonutrients, in particular flavonoids, such as rutin and hesperidin, but it is the significant concentrations of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) that characterize the use of acerola.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid): one of the most important vitamins for our body, which however is not able to synthesize it and must therefore be integrated with the diet. Furthermore, vitamin C does not accumulate and it is necessary to take it constantly to keep its levels in the blood stable.

Rosehip : The false fruits of the rosehip are a very rich source of vitamin C.

Rutin : also called rutoside, is a flavonoic glycoside derived from quercetin.

Hesperidin : component of the bioflavonoid family.

Curiosity

Acerola, or Barbados cherry, is the fruit of a tropical plant (Malpighia punicifolia L.) widespread in Central and South America.

In recent years, acerola has attracted a lot of attention as an exceptional natural source of vitamin C, whose powerful antioxidant action has been extensively studied.

In acerola there are also flavonoids, especially rutin and hesperidin, compounds that work in synergy with vitamin C.

We can thank Linus Pauling, two times Nobel Prize in chemistry, who has studied at length the role of this substance in our organism (supporter of high dosages), exploring the possible therapeutic functions of this very important vitamin.

Vitamin C stimulates collagen synthesis and increases skin surface hydration. Its concentrations decrease with exposure to the sun and pollution by up to 70%.

The same goes for smoking and passive smoking: it seems that each cigarette is able to "consume" 25 mg of vitamin C and that smokers show a deficiency of 4% more than non-smokers.
