Macushield is a food supplement for the eyes based on lutein, meso-zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin (elements concentrated in the center of the retina) with a photo-protective and antioxidant function.
MacuShield Original Formula contains LMZ3, consisting of the 3 macular carotenoids, lutein, meso-zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin in a ratio of 10/10/2.
LMZ3 is a plant extract obtained from marigold flowers (Tagetes erecta).
LMZ3 present in MacuShield Original Formula consists of all three carotenoids of the macula: lutein, meso-zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin. Scientific research has shown that these three nutrients are found in the macula, the back of the eye where they form the macular pigment (yellow in color); concentrated in the center of the macular pigment is meso-zeaxanthin.
What is macular pigment?
Macular pigment is a yellow color pigment that we eat with our diet. It consists of 3 nutrients: lutein, meso-zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin.
It is located in the macula (yellow spot), the central part of the retina, responsible for distinct vision and the perception of details.
What functions does the macular pigment perform?
Macular pigment performs two very important functions:
• By filtering blue light, macular pigment protects the retina from damage from light rays that contribute to the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD);
• Particularly blue light causes the annoyance of glare. By selectively filtering this wavelength, the macular pigment improves vision and reduces the sensation of glare.
Macular pigment guarantees antioxidant protection:
• At the cellular level, the production of free radicals due to exposure to light radiation causes oxidative stress (the same process that causes aging).
• Antioxidants help to counteract the action of free radicals, they can help slow down or stop the aging process of the macula. By reducing the amount of light reaching the macula and also increasing antioxidant protection, free radical damage is reduced
