Forskolin is the fundamental active substance of Coleus forskohlii, an Ayurvedic plant of the Lamiaceae or Labiatae family that grows in the mountains of Asia, in particular in the subtropical areas of India, Burma and Thailand.

Also called "cholenol", it is particularly known for its ability to assist in the loss of fat mass, as long as it is associated with a correct diet and regular physical activity.

Specifically, forskolin causes the activation of a family of enzymes called adenylate cyclase, a process that induces an increase in the levels of the cellular metabolite cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate (AMPc).

The increase in the concentration of this metabolite in fat cells sets in motion a series of chemical reactions, including lipolysis.

Lipolysis is the catabolic process of breaking down triglycerides, through which fatty acids and glycerol are released for energy.

It seems, therefore, that taking forskolin can help improve lipid metabolism, favoring the weight loss process.
