Aquacel Foam what it is

It is a Hydrofiber dressing

When to use Aquacel foam:

it can be used for the management of:

  • leg ulcers, pressure ulcers (stage II - IV) and diabetic foot ulcers;
  • surgical wounds (e.g. post-operative wounds, wounds left to heal by secondary intention and skin sampling areas);
  • partial thickness burns;
  • traumatic wounds (for example, abrasions and lacerations);
  • absorption of exudate in cancer ulcers (e.g. cutaneous mycotic tumors, skin metastases and Kaposi's sarcoma).

How to use Acquacel Foam

How to use: For exuding wounds: before applying the dressing, clean the wound area with a suitable cleanser. The dressing should extend beyond the wound area by at least 1 cm. When using tape-formed Aquacel Hydrofiber in deep cavity wounds, leave at least 2.5 cm out of the wound for easy removal. Fill deep wounds no more than 80%, as the Hydrofiber dressing in contact with the wound fluid expands and fills the spaces. Apply the dressing to the wound and cover with a moisture-retaining dressing or other appropriate secondary dressing. Remove the dressing when clinically indicated (e.g. leaking fluid, excessive bleeding, suspected infection).
The dressing can be left in place for up to 7 days where clinically indicated (except in burns where it can be left in place for up to 14 days). For dry wounds: In addition to the above instructions for use, place the dressing over the wound and moisten it with sterile water or brine solution over the wound area only. Cover the dressing with one that keeps the environment moist to prevent the dressing from drying out and consequently adhering to the wound.
For partial thickness burns: Before applying the dressing, cleanse the wound area with an appropriate cleanser. The dressing should extend at least 5cm above the skin surrounding the burn or other adjacent dressings as the dressing shrinks as the exudate absorbs. The dressing should be covered with a properly secured sterile woven gauze pad. In the immediate aftermath of the burn (up to 4 days), large amounts of wound exudate may require the saturated dressing to be removed and replaced with a new dressing. Periodically remove the cover dressing and inspect the dressing as it remains in place on the burn.
Adhesion of the dressing to the wound bed is a desirable feature in this indication. Non-adhesion of parts of the dressing may indicate a deeper burn or infection.
As soon as the burn re-epithelialises, the dressing peels off or is easily removable. In partial thickness burns, the dressing can be left in place for up to 14 days or as clinically indicated. If the burn is infected, frequent inspection of the wound may be required.

Contraindications :

the dressing should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity or who have had an allergic reaction to the dressing or any of its components.

Warnings :

The product is for single use only. Sterility is guaranteed except in case the wrapping is damaged or opened prior to use. Adequate supportive measures should be taken when indicated (for example, the use of graduated compression bandages in the treatment of venous ulcers or pressure-relieving systems in the management of pressure ulcers / bedsores). Blood glucose control, as well as adequate supportive measures, should be provided in the case of treating diabetic foot ulcers. Infection is not a contraindication to the use of the dressing. If infection develops while using the dressing, antibiotic therapy should be initiated, as clinically indicated, by a healthcare professional. The dressing can help control minor bleeding. If the dressing is difficult to remove, the dressing should be completely saturated with sterile brine or water and removed slowly. Because the dressing provides a moist environment that promotes the growth of new blood vessels, occasionally these newly formed vessels may produce a blood-colored wound fluid. The dressing is not indicated as a surgical swab. It should not be used in abdominal cavities or internally sutured wounds.
