SAFFRON

Hydroalcoholic solution from fresh plant grown in Italy.

Saffron (Crocus sativus L., from the Greek “Krokos” which means “thread”, probably due to the long stigmas) is a plant known and appreciated since ancient times.

It also appears in the Ebers Papyrus among medicinal plants.

Of Saffron, in Ancient Mediterranean Medicine, they wrote Hippocrates, Theophrastus, Galen and Dioscorides.

It had value as a precious spice of the color of gold, a symbol of eternity and in the Middle Ages Saffron became a widely used medicinal plant for the treatment of menstrual irregularities, the action on sterility, epilepsy as well as to treat "blemishes that cover the eyes ". According to the Salerno School, it "strengthens the limbs", healing the liver.

Also in this period and throughout the Renaissance, its use as a spice capable of reinvigorating the stomach and sexual desire was imposed. In Popular Medicine, Saffron was also used in coughs, gum problems, against burns and bruises and for its tonic-aromatic virtues.

The main constituents of Saffron are carotenoids similar to zeaxanthin such as Crocina, Crocetina, Safranol, Lycopene, Vit. B1 and B2.

How to use

5 drops 2-3 times a day, diluted in a little water.
