Atena Isanibio Phosphatidylserine - Food Supplement

What is Isanibium Phosphatidylserine

Contributes to energy metabolism, to the functioning of the nervous system, to the pigmentation of the skin and hair, to the absorption of iron; supports the immune system, basic acid and carbohydrate metabolism. Protects from oxidative stress. Useful in the constitution of the myelin sheath and bile.

From the writer Myprotein Ludovico Lemme , ISSA certified personal trainer and student at the SaNIS (School of Nutrition and Sports Integration).

State of the art of Isanibio Phosphatidylserine

Phosphatidylserine is a supplement that has been promoted a lot in the past due to its main anti-catabolic effect. The problem, as often happens, is that we got carried away and often went to misunderstand the real usefulness that this could have. It also causes the historical period in which everything was seen from an anabolism = good, catabolism = bad perspective. So let's go and understand the features and advantages it could have.

Characteristics of Isanibio Phosphatidylserine

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a phospholipid constituting the cell membrane. It is therefore composed of two fatty acids linked to a glycerol molecule by a phosphate group. This structure has the particularity of presenting a head (hydrophilic) and a tail (hydrophobic). The first made up of phosphate needs water unlike the second made up of fatty acids. Normally the PS is exposed on the cytoplasmic side of the cell, where it is moved back to the original side by the fippase enzymes. It was normally produced using the bovine brain. However, this process was abandoned due to the risk of mad cow disease. Currently the products on the market derive from soy or cabbage. However, there seem to be differences in the use of plant sources due to structural differences.

Scientific Research and Benefits of Isanibio Phosphatidylserine

Contrary to popular belief, the use of the molecule as a supplementation did not originate in the sports field. In fact, positive effects on memory and concentration had already been found, and was therefore widely used to improve cognitive abilities. This is a case in which there are differences between the different sources of origin.

"The soy lecithin phosphatidylserine molecule (S-PS) contains mainly polyunsaturated acids, while the bovine brain isolated phosphatidylserine molecule (BC-PS) contains mainly saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids and long-chain fat polyunsaturated acids." Clinical studies in humans have found that "daily supplementation with S-PS [soy-derived phosphatidylserine] does not affect memory or other cognitive functions in elderly people with memory impairment." It must be said, however, that initial studies have proved to be obvious

efficacy of PS deriving from soy compared to that deriving from bovine. On the other hand, research on ovo-PS (E-PS) seems to be more promising thanks to the presence of Omega 3 and 6 which confer fluidity to neuronal membranes, a fluidity which is essential given the function of transmitting impulses between one cell and another. Use in Sports

So let's go and see its use in sports.

In athletes it has been shown above all to improve performance as well as the endocrine response to sports stress. An additional benefit found on the course was to decrease muscle damage in high intensity sports such as cycling and weightlifting, but also in milder sports such as golf.

It has therefore been identified as an excellent supplement against stress induced by physical activity due to its antagonistic effect against cortisol, it will therefore increase the famous T / C (testosterone / cortisol ratio). This also translated into a promotion of a better general mood as well as feelings of "well-being". Another peculiarity is that these effects appear to be dose-dependent.

But why is all this happening?

So ... we need some mention of our "friend" cortisol.

It is a steroid-type hormone (that is, deriving from cholesterol) belonging to the glucocorticoid family. It is produced by the adrenal glands, synthesized upon stimulation of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).

However, its action is then mediated by the enzyme 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11HSD), in the two forms 11HSD1 (which transforms cortisone into cortisol) and 11HSD2 which converts cortisol into cortisone. We therefore see that the hormone is regulated by a delicate balancing process aimed at precisely weighing its release into the circulation based on the specific needs of the organism (then we will deepen).

So to influence the picture we have two possibilities: to intervene on regulatory enzymes (for example molecules such as 7-Keto or 7-Oh act as inhibitors of the enzyme 11-beta HSD1) or upstream on ACTH. Guess what? PS inhibits the hypothalamic release of ACTH and consequently the synthesis of cortisol by the adrenals.

How to use Isanibio Phosphatidylserine

It is recommended to administer 1 to 3 capsules 3 times a day

As for the dosages, in one study 800 mg of PS decreased cortisol levels by 30% while 400 mg had no significant results compared to placebo. In another, 800mg again led to a 20% decrease in cortisol levels due to training. Generally, being a dose-dependent supplement, a more massive intake of up to 1-1.5 grams per day is recommended.
