Biatain® Silicone Ag is a soft, flexible and highly absorbent foam dressing with gentle silicone adhesion. Biatain® Silicone Ag contains silver, which is continuously released into the wound. It can be used for infected wounds or at risk of infection.

Excellent absorption thanks to the exclusive 3D foam structure. In contact with the exudate, the 3D foam structure of Biatain® Silicone Ag curves at the base of the wound and thus guarantees excellent absorption, even under compression (2,3). Wound exudate is absorbed by the unique 3D foam structure, directed vertically away from the wound and stored safely, whilst maintaining a moist wound environment to create optimal conditions for wound healing. Direct contact with the wound base reduces the void between the dressing and the wound and minimizes the accumulation of exudates, which can lead to infection (4).

Continuously releasing silver complex with proven efficacy against bacteria commonly found in delayed-healing infected wounds, including MRSA, VR-E, ESBL-producing bacteria and Pseudomonas (2,3). The silver profile guarantees the prolonged release of silver for the entire period of use (up to 7 days) (1).

Gentle and secure hold Silicone adhesion provides a secure hold while minimizing pain when removing the bandage. The soft and flexible design of Biatain® Silicone Ag ensures optimal adaptation to the wound and body. The Biatain® Silicone Ag foam cushion is at skin level, which ensures optimal comfort even under compression.

Product composition

Biatain® Silicone Ag is a soft and adaptable polyurethane foam dressing with a complex of silver ions distributed homogeneously throughout the foam matrix. The dressing features a semi-permeable, water-repellent and antibacterial top film, as well as a delicate silicone adhesive edge.

Biatain® Silicone Ag is indicated for a wide range of exuding wounds with delayed healing due to bacteria or wounds at risk of infection, in particular leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot syndrome, second degree burns, donors of split skin, postoperative wounds and traumatic wounds (e.g. skin abrasions, skin cracks, cuts). It can also be used under compression therapy.

Main advantages

The 3D polymer foam curves at the base of the wound when it comes into contact with wound exudate, thus conforming to the contours of the wound. These properties lay the foundation for excellent absorption combined with effective silver release. (Lit.: 1,2,7)

Biatain Silicone Ag guarantees a continuous release of silver ions for the entire period of use. In the period of approximately 12 hours up to the maximum wearing time of 7 days, this is above the level of other silver foams. (Lit.: 2)
