From the ancient Greeks to the present day: a millennia-long history

The cosmetic and soothing properties of the snail's secretion were already known to the Romans and the ancient Greeks, in fact the animal was also the symbol of the "pharmacies" of the time. The secret of snails is essential for the life of the animal. It helps tissue healing, has natural antiseptic properties and serves the pet to protect itself from small animals, bacteria and viruses that could attack it.

In the 80s of the last century, observing that the hands of heliciculture workers were always soft and that their wounds healed very quickly without infections or scars, we began to study the secret of the snail in the medical and cosmetic fields and, subsequently, to use it in skin care preparations.

Today snail slime is considered a valuable ingredient and is increasingly used in serums and creams for the skin with anti-aging and restorative action as well as for the treatment of small scars, acne and expression lines. It is very rich in Mucopolysaccharides, which give it its characteristic viscosity and film-forming, protective and moisturizing properties. The qualitative chemical analysis of snail slime has shown a rather complex composition of active substances, with particular presence of allantoin, elastin, collagen, glycolic acid, lactic acid, anti-protease, vitamins and minerals.

LOOM: technical-qualitative information

General description: Loom Snail Slime is obtained from “Helix aspersa” (snail) for pharmaceutical and cosmetic use. The secretion is collected and filtered in two stages, the first for roughing and the second for polishing. There are no dilutions or chemical interventions, apart from the addition of stabilizers.

Main Ingredient: Extract of Snail Slime (Helix aspersa Muller) Loom (Snail Secretion Filtrate) liquid, microfiltered, very pure.

100% Italian Origin: The Snail Slime (BdL) Loom is a production entirely made in Italy, by a company certified and controlled by the USL Company and under the control of the responsible veterinarian.

LOOM production: product quality and respect for the snail

The snails are raised exclusively on outdoor ground according to an "Italian" method which differs considerably from the approach adopted in other European countries such as France, Spain or South America, where the snail is kept and raised in artificial conditions (in greenhouses, in containers or indoors).

The animals are fed with sown vegetables to which apples, pumpkins and cabbage are added, all produced on site, without using any type of chemical fertilizer, insecticides or other poisons.

Cruelty Free extraction

The Loom Snail Slime is extracted with the manual stimulation method, perfectly safe and respectful of the well-being of the snails. The snails are washed, cleaned and then gently stimulated with the hands.

The movement causes the animals to produce drool. Once the snails have been obtained, after having been washed and cleaned again, they are brought back to the farm where they continue their normal life.

The resulting slime is then filtered and microfiltered to eliminate any type of impurity. The method is very tiring and expensive, however it allows to obtain a high quality slime and to save stress for our snails which, therefore, are not sacrificed or subjected to stress or bloody procedures.

Other manufacturers use machines that give an electric shock and a vibration of almost an hour, causing the death of more than 80% of the snails.
