Cuprum metallicum is the Latin name for copper, a heavy metal of red color, very malleable, ductile and hard which oxidizes when exposed to air, becoming covered with a greenish patina of hydrocarbonate (copper green).
Main indications
Night cramps in the calves and feet in older people, cramps during coitus, tics in the face and twitching of the eyelids. Spasmophilic crises starting in the extremities (thumb flexed towards the palm), convulsive states, hiccups that improve with cold drinks, violent abdominal colic, glottal spasms, asthma with severe dyspnoea, fits of pertussoid cough. In Wilson's disease it would be interesting to study the dechelant curative action of high dilutions of Cuprum metellicum.
Psychological characteristics of the patient
Typical of sensitive subjects are: hyper-excitability, the inability to control impulses a certain emotional lability that makes them unable to cope with psychophysical stress and fright, which determine the onset of intense psychomotor arousal and a marked instability of tone mood, with laughter and crying or uncontrolled aggressive reactions.
Symptoms and methods of reaction
Worsening with cold, with pressure, with contact, with emotions, with the new moon, with the suppression of a rash.
Improvement: with sweat, cough from drinking cold water.
Characteristic: crampy pains with abrupt onset and disappearance.
Dosage
Granules at 5-9 CH repeated at the rhythm of the spastic phenomena of abdominal colic or pertussoid accesses, 7-9 CH in spasmophilic cramps and calf cramps, 15-30 in convulsive states.
Like cures like
After acute intoxication, by inhalation or by ingestion, sudden onset spasms on smooth and striated muscles are highlighted which are also expressed with painful tics in the face, violent convulsions starting from the extremities, crampy precordialgia, pharyngeal and glottal spasms, asthma from bronchospasm, hiccups and abdominal colic. It also causes inflammation, up to ulceration, of the digestive mucous membranes and skin. Chronic intoxication causes accumulation in the liver and gray nuclei of the brain (Wilson's disease). For similarity it treats, at infinitesimal doses, pathologies with symptoms similar to those caused toxicologically.
