Vegetable charcoal plays a role of absolute importance as a natural herbal remedy, followed by carminative plants such as fennel and anise.
It is obtained from the dry distillation of birch, willow or poplar wood, from which a powder is obtained.
It has mild adsorbent properties, acting like a sponge.
Coal, in general, has adsorbent properties which make it capable of retaining intestinal gas; moreover, it facilitates the elimination of bacteria which causes fermentation.
For subjects who only have a form of meteorism caused by incorrect nutrition, coal must be taken after meals.
Usually, for subjects following a pharmacological treatment, coal should be avoided, because it could decrease the bioavailability of the drugs.
Furthermore, coal must not be taken by people with vitamin deficiencies and by subjects who show absorption problems in general: coal, in fact, weakens the absorption of the main nutrients.
It would be a good rule to take lactic ferments in conjunction with charcoal to favor the restoration of the intestinal flora, consequently to fight meteorism.
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) and anise (Pimpinella anisum): are carminative plants that reduce abdominal swelling thanks to molecules capable of limiting anaerobic fermentation (in the absence of oxygen) operated by the intestinal flora.
Fennel, by stimulating biliary activity, is also used against dyspepsia; it is also a diuretic.
The phytocomplex is characterized by phencone and anethole, belonging to the category of mono and sesquiterpenes. Anise enhances the action of fennel, inhibits the fermentation process in the intestine, reduces flatulence and nausea.
