Melilotus Officinalis Mother Tincture

The flowering tops of Melilotus officinalis contain coumarin flavonoids, tannins and glycosides, which release coumarins by enzymatic hydrolysis. Among these the most represented is melilotoside, which then transforms into coumarin. whose main effect is on lymphatic drainage.

The mother tincture of sweet clover is therefore indicated in the treatment of venous and lymphatic insufficiency, in the presence of edema and swelling of the lower limbs, water retention, varicose veins, phlebitis, heavy legs, hemorrhoids and cellulite, as it improves peripheral microcirculation; venous and lymphatic circulation strengthens the walls of the veins and thins the blood.

Furthermore, the hydroalcoholic extract of the plant has calming and spasmolytic properties useful in case of insomnia, states of nervousness and irritability.

Plant description

The sweet clover is widespread throughout Europe with a temperate climate, it grows in fields or in uncultivated and semi-sunny places. Annual and biennial herbaceous plant has one or more erect or prostrate stems, glabrous, bearing alternate, trifoliate, oblong leaves with serrated edges. The yellow flowers are collected in axillary spike-shaped racemes. The fruit is a hairless legume, greenish when ripe.

Usage

The mother tinctures have no contraindications other than those of the plant itself, diluted in a little water they can be administered to everyone, the alcohol contained in them is thus diluted, so it is harmless. To be used with caution in subjects undergoing therapy based on anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs or anti-inflammatory drugs. Abuse can cause headache and nausea.

Internal use: 40 drops in a little water three times a day between meals
