Condress Equine Collagen Dressing 10x10cm Smith & Nephew
Collagen is a fibrous protein that makes up the extracellular matrix of human tissues including skin, tendons and bones and accounts for approximately 25% of the body's total proteins.1
Collagen plays an important role in the biological process of scarring by acting as a driver of tissue repair processes. Its mechanical action provides structural support, contributing to:
- provide a supporting structure (scaffold) for the recovery of the loss of substance
- control the differentiation, migration and synthesis of numerous cell proteins
- promote the physiological formation of fibroblasts, granulation tissue and native collagen
- facilitate contact of platelets and clotting factors (haemostasis)
- favor the formation of capillaries (angiogenesis).
The native type 1 heterologous collagen, with a triple helix structure, produces effects similar to those of tissue collagen.
CONDRESS dressings, consisting of pure lyophilized heterologous native type 1 collagen of equine origin (extracted from horse tendon), help to accelerate the healing process of chronic skin lesions, acute and traumatic wounds.
CONDRESS forms a layer of gel on the bottom of the lesion which is slowly reabsorbed by the underlying tissue, naturally accelerating the tissue repair process thanks to its mechanical action. CONDRESS protects the wound from the external environment and allows to maintain a constant moist environment on the wound bed. The moist environment is the key to faster healing. Maintaining a moist wound interface at all times is critical in the wound healing process.
Indications
CONDRESS is indicated for the treatment of pressure sores, vascular ulcers, diabetic ulcers, chronic skin lesions, acute and traumatic wounds, as a stimulator of the physiological healing process. CONDRESS is also indicated for use as a local hemostatic to be used in surgical procedures such as reconstructive vascular surgery, carotid surgery, abdominal and gynecological, orthopedic and traumatological surgery, odontology and in the emergency room to control capillary bleeding. Despite its excellent haemostatic properties, it should not replace direct ligation or compression in case of heavy bleeding. Anticoagulant therapies do not interfere with its activity.
Contraindications
No sensitization phenomena or side effects were found or reported. The device does not affect driving and use of machinery.
There are no known contraindications for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. For more information read the package leaflet.
Precautions
Do not administer the product to patients with a known family history of anaphylactoid reactions or hypersensitivity to both topical and injectable collagen. The device is non-toxic, does not give rise to bolus formation, does not swell if it absorbs moisture and therefore does not cause suffocation. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. For more information read the package leaflet.
Replacement frequency
The dressing can remain in place until completely resorbed, compatibly with the clinical condition of the wound. Removal is not required for subsequent applications. For more information read the package leaflet.
Application
Perform the dressing with the aseptic procedure. Do not use in the presence of a local infection. In this case, proceed with systemic antibiotic and / or topical antimicrobial treatment. Avoid use on excessively exuding wounds. Clean the wound according to local clinical protocols trying to remove any purulent materials and / or necrotic fragments from the bottom and edges of the wound.
Apply the device on the wound, after having moistened it with saline solution. Use one or more plates contiguously and overlapping if necessary to cover the entire lesion. If used as a haemostatic, and if the operation is carried out being unsure of having performed it under aseptic conditions, the device must be removed after haemostasis has occurred.
Secure device to injury with sterile gauze or non-adherent dressing. For more information read the package leaflet.
Removal
In the case of use in the treatment of ulcers, when the product is adhering to the wound bed, do not remove or detach it to check the state of the wound. The product is absorbed and dissolves over time. If, upon checking, the product is absorbed, place another plaque on the wound bed, without removing any fragments of the product.
