FOR INTENSIVE TREATMENTS

In the mouth, food is mechanically crushed by the teeth and mixed with saliva thanks to the movements of the tongue. In humans, the chewing function is mainly carried out by molars and premolars which, by rubbing one on the other, reduce the food to a pulp; incisors and canines, on the other hand, allow you to tear up shreds of food by grinding it coarsely. The teeth are located in a cavity of the jaw called the dental alveolus; in each tooth there are three parts: the crown the part of the tooth that protrudes from the socket, the collar located between the root and the crown and one or more roots that anchor the tooth to the underlying tissue. The teeth are made of dentin (or ivory), a particular type of very resistant yellowish bone tissue, which protects the pulp from temperature variations and mechanical stress. Not surprisingly, the teeth are the most mineralized organs in the human body. In the crown, the dentin is covered with a layer of enamel, a particular very resistant and mineralized white epithelial tissue, which protects the tooth from external aggressions. At the level of the collar and roots, the dentin is covered by another type of bone tissue, called cement, which anchors it to its seat. In the dentin there is a small cavity (pulpal cavity) that contains the pulp, a soft tissue rich in blood vessels and nerve endings (trigeminal nerve); in fact the sensitivity of the tooth is due precisely to the presence of nerve endings inside the dental pulp. The gum is the part of the mucous membrane of the mouth that surrounds the teeth and covers the alveolar bone. A healthy gum is pink in color, its outline follows the collar of the teeth and the surface has a slight graininess, like an orange peel.

WHAT IS GINGIVITIS?

Gingivitis is an inflammatory process that affects the tissues surrounding the base of the teeth; It manifests as irritation, redness, swelling, and pain of the gums particularly when brushing your teeth, flossing, or biting into something hard like an apple. The cause is the accumulation of bacteria in the oral cavity that form a thin biofilm on the teeth that favors the formation of plaque and later of tartar which over time cause inflammation and a lifting of the tissues, which exposes the base of the teeth to the aggression of bacteria. The main cause is poor oral hygiene, then there are other predisposing conditions including smoking, excessive consumption of sugars, a weakening of the immune defenses.

WHAT IS CARIES?

Caries is a slow-moving dental infection triggered by the attack of some microorganisms that populate the oral cavity. It is a very widespread problem and it is estimated that it affects, at least once in a lifetime, about 90% of the world population. Dental caries more easily affects molars, premolars and upper incisors, generally it tends to develop between the interdental spaces where it is more difficult to remove food residues with the brush.

WHAT IS ALITOSIS?

Halitosis, or bad breath, is a disorder related to an affection of the oral cavity, characterized by the emission of an unpleasant odor from the mouth when breathing or speaking. It has been shown that up to 50% of the current population suffers from halitosis, and in about half of these, halitosis creates personal distress. It is estimated that in 85% of patients, the causes of halitosis reside in the oral cavity (there are also systemic causes, but they are a smaller percentage). Caries, periodontal disorders and oral infections contribute to the onset of this disease, but a common factor is undoubtedly poor oral hygiene.
