WHAT ARE INSULIN NEEDLES

FOR A CORRECT INJECTION

• INJECTION AREA Parts of the body are chosen in which there is sufficient subcutaneous layer: abdomen, legs, arms and buttocks are the most recommended parts. The part of the body where the insulin is injected affects the absorption of insulin and consequently the blood sugar levels.
• ROTATION OF THE SITES It is advisable to change the injection site even within the same area, to avoid the onset of problems such as swelling, redness, bruising and severe lipodystrophies.
• NEEDLE SIZE It is important that insulin is released into the subcutaneous tissue and is properly absorbed.
• ASSEMBLING THE NEEDLE Make sure the needle is attached correctly to avoid insulin leaks.
• DISPOSABLE NEEDLES The needles can be used only once. After using it, the needle should be disposed of in an appropriate container. Reuse of needles could lead to needle breakage, lipodystrophies and infections.
