Durafiber

Dressings in gelling fibers of ethyl sulphonated cellulose without silver

DURAFIBER dressings belong to a new generation of gelling cellulose fibers, designed to meet the many challenges posed by infected or non-infected medium to heavy exuding wounds.

Specially designed with innovative technology, DURAFIBER is made up of a special blend of non-woven fibers, unique in its kind, which guarantees high performance.

This particular blend offers a unique combination of benefits that distinguish DURAFIBER dressings from conventional gelling fiber dressings.

Indications

DURAFIBER and DURAFIBER Ag are sterile dressings, with high absorbency, made up of new generation resistant gelling fibers. They consist of a weft made of non-woven fibers of ethyl sulphonated cellulose (ESC) which, in contact with the exudate of the lesion, rapidly transform into a transparent and fresh gel. This gel absorbs excess fluids, keeps exudate away from the wound, keeps the wound moist and conforms perfectly to the wound bed reducing dead spaces where bacteria can proliferate.

The high resistance that DURAFIBER boasts when wet facilitates its one-piece removal from the wound bed and cavity lesions, minimizing patient trauma and pain during removal. DURAFIBER and DURAFIBER Ag can be used in association with other Smith & Nephew products such as: ALLEVYN, OPSITE, PROFORE.

Benefits

High absorbency

DURAFIBER dressings provide effective fluid management and help reduce the risk of leakage by retaining exudate and any bacteria inside. DURAFIBER effectively blocks lateral diffusion of fluids minimizing the risk of periwound skin maceration and cross-contamination during dressing removal.

Minimal dressing shrinkage

DURAFIBER ensure effective coverage of the wound bed without the worry of excessive shrinkage. High absorbency combined with minimal shrinkage increases the efficiency of dressings compared to gelling fibers currently on the market.

Safe, one-piece removal

DURAFIBER gel remains intact when wet ensuring one-piece removal. It also reduces the presence of dressing residues on the wound bed, allowing for quick and comfortable dressing changes, helping to optimize nursing time.

Precautions

  • Physicians or healthcare professionals should be aware that data on the prolonged and repeated use of dressings containing silver are still very limited, particularly in children and infants.
  • DURAFIBER facilitates the management of lesions that tend to bleed, however they are not intended as surgical sponges in lesions with heavy bleeding.
  • Avoid contact with conductive electrodes or gels during electronic measurements, such as EEG and ECG.
  • Make sure you have removed the whip dressing in cavities, breasts, etc.
  • The dressing may not be compatible with topical antimicrobial agents. In case of redness or sensitization stop the treatment.
  • In the case of clinical infection, silver cannot replace the need for systemic therapy or another suitable method of treating the infection.

Contraindications

  • Do not use in patients with known sensitivity to silver.
  • Do not use on non-exuding wounds.
