CROSS-LINKED HYALURONIC ACID

Cross-linked or cross-linked hyaluronic acid is known for its use as a dermal filler injected by dermatologists directly into the skin to physically fill wrinkles. Inserted in cosmetic formulations for topical use, this active nevertheless demonstrates the ability to immediately fill wrinkles. Not present in nature, it is modified in the laboratory by biotechnological techniques. The result is a hyaluronic acid with the molecules so bound together as to form a compact block that makes it more viscous and lasting, because the enzyme that degrades it, hyaluronidase, has a harder time dismantling it. Cross-linked hyaluronic acid, compared to non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, also has superior properties of binding to water, comparable to those of a super-absorbent polymer.
