Vulgar name: Helichrysum
Botanical name: Helichrysum angustifolium
Family: Asteraceae
Synonyms and foreign names: Italian helichrysum, St. John's wort, everlasting, perpetuina. Helichrysumoel, Immortelleoel, oil of Helichrysum, of everlasting, essence de helichrysum.
Main constituents: Nerol and neryl acetate, alpha-pinene, geraniol, furfural, valerianic aldehyde.
Predominance: Born in sunny and exposed places without requiring any external intervention, it gives off heat and stimulus so as to be reasonably defined as predominantly yang.
Note: Its sunny, warm and woody scent underlines a strong attachment of this plant to the earth from which it draws its typical base note.
Planet governor: The deep and lasting work on the body and in particular on the skin and also the immortality of its flowers underline its venereal character. Helichrysum is weakly determined by Venus.

Reference chakra: Liver, blood, bile and the stimulation of the kidneys and also the treatment of all problems inherent to the epidermis convince us to attribute to this essence a predominance of action on the 1st chakra.
Physical aspect: The helichrysum is a small strongly aromatic herbaceous plant that grows spontaneously, but is also cultivated. It is up to 60 cm high. with branchy and woody stem at the base. The flowers are small and bright in color, their main feature being that they retain their bright yellow color even after drying. The leaves are needle-like, with a characteristic curry scent and covered with a more or less sparse white fluff.
Origin: The helichrysum plant comes from the Mediterranean basin, from where it spread to southern and central Europe, the Balkans, Central Asia and Africa.

Parts used: The flowers, called flower heads, and the flowering tops.
Extraction methods: The essential oil of helichrysum is extracted by distillation, in a current of steam, of the parts of the plant, no later than 24 hours after harvesting to avoid the onset of fermentation processes. The helichrysum plant is very complex to work as the part used for distillation, the flower heads, is decidedly reduced compared to the volume of the whole plant. Furthermore, the yield in terms of essential oil extracted from the raw material is further reduced compared to many other plants so as to allow to obtain less than 100 g per 100 kg of distillates equal to 0.1%. It is therefore a highly sought after and expensive product. It is for this reason that absolute and concrete essences can be found on the market, as well as sophisticated products. Therefore, be wary of products which, inside their packaging, do not have a guarantee, drawn up by a laboratory technician, who carried out the analyzes.

Colorless or pale yellow liquid with a characteristic warm, sweet, liqueur and spicy odor.
