During food intake, the teeth are exposed to the resulting acids (from the transformation of sugars contained in food) demineralizing the enamel, with the potential for cavity formation. elmex® CARIES PROTECTION PROFESSIONAL ™ with SUGAR ACID NEUTRALIZER ™ technology not only promotes the remineralization of demineralized dental enamel, but also protects it effectively from acid attacks, and therefore from caries.

Clinical research

The results of an in situ study demonstrate the efficacy of elmex® CARIES PROTECTION PROFESSIONAL ™. In this two-week study, it was shown that in subjects who brushed their teeth with elmex® CARIES PROTECTION PROFESSIONAL ™ the mineral content of enamel increased four times more than in subjects who used traditional toothpaste based of sodium monofluorophostate. These results demonstrate that elmex® CARIES PROTECTION PROFESSIONAL ™ promotes the remineralization of dental enamel.
A two-year randomized double-blind clinical trial saw the participation of 6,000 subjects, divided into two groups: half of them brushed their teeth with a traditional sodium fluoride toothpaste, while the other half with elmex® PROTECTION CARIES PROFESSIONAL ™. The occurrence of new carious lesions was measured at the start of the study, at the end of the first year and after two years. The results showed that in the group in which elmex® CARIES PROTECTION PROFESSIONAL ™ was used regularly there was a statistically significant 18% reduction in new caries lesions compared to the group that used a sodium fluoride toothpaste; therefore, elmex® CARIES PROTECTION PROFESSIONAL ™ offers significantly higher caries protection.
