Isotonic salts

Rinoway® Std salts for Isotonic or Hypertonic irrigation are packaged in practical single-dose sachets of 2.25 gr. Dissolving one sachet in 250 ml. of water a 0.9% Isotonic solution is obtained, by dissolving two sachets a slightly hypertonic solution is obtained.

Rinoway® Std nasal irrigation salts are a practical and economical alternative to traditional nasal irrigation solutions or bags.

Each pack contains a free nebulizer!

What is the difference between an isotonic solution and a hypertonic solution?

Isotonic means that the saline solution has the same salt concentration as the human body; hypertonic means that the concentration is greater, similar to that of the sea.

When to use an isotonic solution:

It has been proven that the use of an Isotonic solution is useful:

  • for daily nasal hygiene,
  • in case of perennial rhinitis or acute sinusitis,
  • common cold or snoring.

When to use a hypertonic solution:

A hypertonic solution is useful as a support in case of:

  • chronic sinusitis (improves mucociliary clearance by increasing the topical antibacterial effect),
  • seasonal allergic rhinitis (especially during pregnancy, to limit the use of drugs),
  • in the post-operative period of a patient who has undergone nasp or sinus surgery,
  • for the treatment and prevention of ear infections.

What are the advantages of a hypertonic solution compared to an isotonic solution?

The Isotonic solution is obtained by dissolving a sachet of Rinoway® Std salts in the Rinoway® nasal douche and adding 250 ml. of lukewarm water (it reaches up to the neck of the shower).

To obtain a hypertonic solution, one sachet of Rinoway® 3% is dissolved in the same quantity of water.

Washes with hypertonic saline solutions:

  • have a decongestant effect,
  • they restore more effectively the movement of the cilia present on the cells of the nasal mucosa and therefore facilitate the constant removal of nasal secretions,
  • the residual salt that remains on the mucosa continues to draw water from the underlying tissues and maintains the fluidity of the secretions,
  • they favor the secretion from the nasal cells of mucins, substances present in the mucus and endowed with protective activity against bacteria and viruses,
  • they are preferred in acute and chronic rhinosinusitis and in conditions characterized by prolonged stagnation of nasal secretions.
