When you need it
Pregnant and breastfeeding women, thanks to the maximum intake of iron and folic acid, allowed by the Ministry of Health; people who follow an exclusively vegetarian diet; young people in developmental age and in the growth phase, due to the increased need and biological demand for iron; women of childbearing age with heavy menstruation; people who follow an unbalanced diet or who often follow low-calorie diets; people who perform strenuous physical activity; elderly people undergoing chronic drug therapies (possible interference with iron absorption).

Why use it
The product also contains folic acid which contributes to the growth of maternal tissues during pregnancy and Vitamin C which increases the absorption of iron and promotes the normal functioning of the immune system.

How to use

Why is iron important?
Iron is a vital micronutrient for life, as it is involved:
• in the formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, therefore in the correct transport of oxygen to the tissues;
• in energy metabolism;
• in cognitive functions;
• in the functional balance of the immune system;
• in the physiological reduction of tiredness and in counteracting fatigue;
• in the processes of cell division.

Iron metabolism:
each day the body loses about 1 mg of iron through bile, stool and the peeling of old cells that line the skin or intestines; this rate may increase in women of childbearing age during the menstrual cycle and in other cases. Iron is absorbed mainly in the intestinal mucosa of the duodenum and proximal jejunum; at the level of the intestinal mucosa cells, iron is oxidized and part of it passes into the plasma, where it is transported into the circulation by transferrin. The iron, thus bound, reaches the liver after being absorbed by the intestine; if necessary, the iron can be transferred back to the transferrin from the liver.

Iron deficiency.
Although the body limits its losses, cases of iron deficiency can be quite widespread; generally they can depend on various factors:
• pregnancy and breastfeeding;
• reduced intake due to incorrect nutrition;
• insufficient absorption, usually caused by: increased gastric pH; hypochlorhydria; presence in food of phytates, oxalates and phosphates; excess of beverages such as coffee and tea.

Iron deficiency can manifest itself with:
• non-specific asthenia and excessive fatigue in normal daily activities;
• diffuse pallor;
• excessive irritability;
• poor concentration;
• weakening of the immune defenses.

What to do in case of iron deficiency?
To compensate for iron deficiencies, it is useful and necessary to follow a diet that provides correct quantities of this important micronutrient; it is also possible to carry out supplementation with adequate iron supplements in bioavailable form.
