Taraxacum officinale Weber

It is a perennial herbaceous plant with a cylindrical vertical rhizome that continues downwards with a tap root. The simple, fistulous and leafless stems are up to 40 cm tall. The flowers, gathered in flower heads, have a tubular corolla prolonged in a yellow ligule, orange only in the peripheral flowers.

It is common throughout Italy, where it grows in meadows in grassy places and in woods. It is commonly called "dandelion".

ACTIVE PRINCIPLES

Bitter principles (tarassacin), triterpenes (tarassasterols), sterols (sitosterol, stigmasterol), flavonoids, carbohydrates (inulin), vitamins, mineral salts (potassium).

PROPERTY

Tonic-bitter; cholagogue, choleretic (the actions are intense: they have a latency period of about 1 hour and last for 2 hours); purifying, hepatoprotective (stabilizes the hepatocyte membrane); eupeptic, digestive; diuretic and saluretic; mild laxative; promotes the elimination of cholesterol through the bile.

INDICATIONS

Hepatic congestion, hepatic insufficiency, dyspepsia, inappetence, biliary lithiasis (only on medical prescription) and renal, hepatic dermatosis, scaly dermatosis, acne, eczema, obesity, cellulitis.

RECOMMENDED DOSES

Tablets: 2-3 tablets twice a day.
