ESCOLZIA is a herbaceous plant native to the western regions of North America. It owes its name to the Russian botanist JF Eschscholtz who introduced it to Europe in the 19th century as an ornamental plant known as the California poppy. The thin, cylindrical, gray-green stem from 30 to 60 cm high contains a colorless juice; the leaves are very jagged and end in thin tufts. The flowers vary in color from pale yellow to orange. The 4 rippled petals form a shallow cup with numerous anthers in the center.

PROPERTY
Sedative, soporific (decreases the time needed to fall asleep and improves the quality of sleep), relaxing, antispasmodic (alkaloids have myotropic spasmolytic activity in the gastrointestinal smooth muscle).

INDICATIONS
Insomnia, spasmodic states with difficulty falling asleep and restful sleep, nervous hyperexcitability, psychogenic migraines accompanied by insomnia, colitis of psychosomatic origin.

RECOMMENDED DOSES
Capsules: 1 capsule 3 times a day; in case of insomnia 2 capsules half an hour before bedtime
