is a plant native to tropical Asia belonging to the euphorbiacee family, its cultivation dates back to ancient times, but it is only at the end of the eighteenth century that the oil is included in the pharmacopoeias as a laxative and purgative, today less frequent than in the past, because the action is too drastic.The oil, obtained by cold pressing of the seeds, is highly sought after for its use in the cosmetic field, despite the seeds contain a highly toxic protein, ricin, which is however eliminated during the production process.
