There are many studies on the properties of lactic ferments in stimulating and strengthening the immune defenses. Although there are no definitive studies on this, the research shows positive evidence in this regard.

A study by Peaineau D. and others analyzed seven different strains of probiotics, looking at their immune stimulating effect.

83 healthy volunteers between the ages of 18 and 62 were divided into two groups. For 21 days the first group used lactic ferments, while the second a placebo. All individuals were given an oral vaccine on the seventh and fourteenth days. The aim was to see if their bodies would react by producing immunoglobulins, then antibodies. This factor would have provided evidence of activation of the immune system.

On the first, twenty-first and twenty-eighth days, blood and saliva samples were analyzed in relation to the concentration of IgA, IgC and IgM immunoglobulins.

Saliva analysis did not show changes between the voluntary groups, while in the blood serum there were marked increases in IgG immunoglobulins in subjects who were given probiotic strains, specifically Bifidobacterium lactis and Lactobacillus acidophilus strains.

To summarize, these probiotics have shown, following oral vaccination, the ability to trigger the immune response, resulting in a faster synthesis of antibodies in our body. It should be remembered that type G immunoglobulins (IgG) make up about 75% of adult antibodies and play a fundamental role in the immune response.
