POLYCISTIC OVARY SYNDROME

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a multifactorial syndrome that:

• It is found in 10% of women of childbearing age
• Endocrine alteration more common during the years of reproductive life
• One of the endocrine causes of female infertility
It has at least 2 of the following 3 alterations:
• Hyperandrogenism
• Oligo-anovulation
• Polycystic ovary
Furthermore, in a significant percentage of cases it is also characterized by metabolic alterations, in fact in 70-80% of patients with PCOS there is insulin resistance which is very often associated with obesity but which can also be present in thin patients. The recognition of the important pathophysiological role of IR in PCOS provides the rationale for the introduction in the treatment of new insulin-sensitizing agents.

INOSITOL has been shown to be effective in reducing insulin resistance, reducing androgenic effects and restoring the normal ovarian cycle in women with PCOS.

OVOCYTARY QUALITY

The correct evaluation of the oocyte quality is one of the important aspects for the success of in vitro fertilization techniques. Immature oocytes have low chances of being fertilized and from poor quality oocytes, if fertilized, embryos with low implantation rates develop.

The use of drugs for the induction of multiple follicular growth has allowed to significantly improve the clinical results of in vitro fertilization. This has meant that ovarian pharmacological stimulation is now used in all the reproductive medicine centers. The oocyte maturation process is a process of considerable importance as a mature oocyte must be able to respond to the entry of the sperm by triggering some processes that prevent the entry of further spermatozoa allow the activation of the entered sperm and the modifications of its nucleus that will then allow the union of the male DNA with the female one. The correct assessment of oocyte maturity at the time of pick-up is crucial for the fertilization process and subsequent development. Incorrect egg quality assessments can lead to incorrect insemination times and result in missed or abnormal fertilizations.
A large amount of oxidizing substances, in fact, are involved in reproductive events such as folliculogenesis, ovulation, and the maturation of oocytes.
