Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum L.) is a plant traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine as an emollient, laxative and stimulant of lactation.
The seeds of this plant are rich in galactomannans, a particular type of soluble fiber that has numerous health properties.
The peculiarity of these fibers consists in their ability, through a delaying or modulating effect on the absorption of glucose from food, to improve the glycemic response.
Galactomannans play a beneficial effect in case of discomfort in digestion, acting as a barrier both against hydrochloric acid and pepsin and against irritating foods.
Furthermore, these fibers can induce an effective satiating action which has favorable repercussions in the control of body weight.
