Gluten Free Poppy Seeds

The origins of poppy seeds (Papaver somniferum) are to be found in ancient times and are probably originating in the area of the Asian Pamir plateau. They were used by the ancient Romans, who mixed them with honey and offered them to the spouses in an aphrodisiac drink, and by the Gauls, who spread their use of oil. The poppy is a plant that has always accompanied the cultivation of wheat, so much so that it is depicted in the hair of the Roman goddess of agriculture Ceres. In fact, without the agricultural works that move the land, its small seeds would not be able to resurface and flourish again.

High in fiber: The nutritional claim is allowed when the finished product has a content of at least 6 g per 100 g or 3 g per 100 kcal of dietary fiber.

How to use: Like all oil seeds, poppy seeds are also widely used in doughs for baked goods and pastry. They are widely used in German cuisine and in Italy they belong to the culinary tradition of Trentino-Alto Adige. A classic, for example, is the poppy seed strudel.
