The horse chestnut buds have an elective action for the circulatory system, in the field of gemmotherapy the extracts are characterized by a polychresto and bipolar action, in the latter case it can perform hypertensive and hypotensive action, venous decongestant and anti-haemorrhagic, sedative and antispamodic, it contributes to the well-being of varicose veins and fragile capillaries. Horse chestnut bud extract contains various phytochemical constituents including: acetic acid, triterpene saponins known as beta-escins, esculetin, adenine, adenosine, angelic acid, astragalin, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), brassinosteroids, cytokines, escin, gibberellins, jasmonic acid, sitosterols, tannins and meristematic stem cells. Bipolar regulatory action for hypertensive and hypotensive states; venous decongestant; hemorrhoids (anti-hemorrhagic); sedative and antispasmodic action; varices; varicose veins; capillary fragility; telangiectasias. Useful in chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) as it prevents blood stagnation in the legs and feet. It supports the normal integrity of the vascular system and connective tissue. Helps keep the blood-compatible surfaces of stents clean. Aescin (active ingredient contained in the buds) reduces the transcapillary filtration of water and proteins by increasing the venous tone; stimulates vasoconstriction by stimulating the production of prostaglandin F2-alpha. Stabilizes lysosomal membranes containing cholesterol by limiting the release of enzymes, which is typically increased in chronic pathological conditions of the venous system. It also improves vascular resistance and toning of the venous walls. Triterpene glycosides and steroid saponins decrease venous capillary permeability and appear to have a tonic effect on the entire venous-lymphatic system. Rutin inhibits platelet aggregation, thinning the blood and improving circulation.
