The fruits of chaste tree are traditionally known for their supposed anaphrodisiac effect on man, so much so that they are called "monks pepper" because it seems that they used this remedy to help them face the vow of chastity. In reality, more than a remedy for men, the chaste tree is a precious help for the woman: it is in fact demonstrated that it, although it does not contain female hormones, is able to rebalance their secretion. Numerous clinical studies have shown that it is particularly useful to combat the symptoms that occur in menopause or in many women before the menstrual cycle. It is traditionally used as an adjuvant for disorders related to menopause and premenstrual disorders: hot flashes, water retention, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, abdominal swelling. Contains essential oil (pinene and cineole), flavonoids, iridoids, steroids, sesquiterpenes and polyphenolic compounds.
