In particular, Lagerstroemia speciosa (also known as Banaba), facilitates the passage of sugar from the blood to the cells in a similar way to insulin. This process is made possible by the active ingredient contained in the leaves: corosolic acid which is the phytocomplex responsible for the therapeutic efficacy.
Clinical studies have revealed that by taking Lagerstroemia speciosa orally two to three times a day after main meals, a hypoglycemic effect is obtained in subjects with type II diabetes.
In addition, the effect of inhibiting the differentiation of adipocytes was observed, thus helping the subjects suffering from obesity.

With the study published in the journal 'Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases', the Italian scientists investigated the effects of this plant protein on plasma glucose concentration, using precursor cells of mouse muscle fibers. The results support the hypothesis that conglutin-gamma plays an important role in the regulation of protein synthesis processes. In particular, by mimicking the action of insulin, this substance increases the concentration of proteins capable of activating the 'muscle glucose transporter' (GLUT-4) and regulating muscle energy metabolism.
