Fermented red rice extract
Red rice extract is a new herbal medicine containing real natural statins: HMG-CoA-reductase inhibitors. It is the result of the millenary experience of the East, where the frequency of cardiovascular diseases is the lowest in the world.
By administering red rice extract to dyslipidemic patients, it eliminates lipemic imbalance, significantly decreasing total cholesterol, LDL-linked (LDLC) and triglycerides without causing changes in HDL-linked cholesterol (HDLC). It has been well documented that a decrease in the LDL / HDL ratio indicates a lower atherogenetic risk.

In particular, a fraction of the red rice extract has been shown to be very effective in lowering the levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides: it is called Monakolin K, a statin of natural origin, it selectively inhibits HMG-CoA-reductase .

Unlike synthetic statins, fermented red rice extract also inhibits triglyceride levels in the body.

Monakolin K does not have serious side effects: in all cases of treatment (more than three hundred in the last clinical trial) no increases in transaminases above normal were observed. A limited number of patients (only 1.9%) showed gastric acidity.
