Hipocross Light Hip Brace RO + TEN Right Leg Size S - Medical Device
The use of the brace is indicated in the following cases:
- Post-arthroscopy.
- Post-operative (compatibly with the degree of stabilization required).
- Conservative treatment of hip dislocations.
- Osteoarthritis of the hip joint.
- Treatment of persistent non-specific pain or inoperable joint deformities.
Characteristics
ANTI-EDEMAN FUNCTION AND CRYOTHERAPY In the immediate post-operative period, the patient may present an edema on the operated side, due both to the manipulation of the joint and to the saline solution used during the operation. The compression exerted by the brace favors the limitation of the leakage of liquid, containing the effusion. In the package of the brace there is also a sachet of gel that the patient can cool in the freezer and place in a special housing pocket sewn into the structure of the brace, in order to benefit from a beneficial cold therapy.
ADDUCTIVE CONTAINMENT FUNCTION Frequently in the post-surgical period, for a protective and compensatory mechanism of pain, the adductor muscles are contracted. And in some movements, for example when walking, the hip moves outward and the leg tends to go into adduction, which could cause a painful and dangerous dislocation. The brace, thanks to the structure in compressive fabric and the presence of the tie rods that cross over the trochanter, contains the adduction reducing the risk that the patient involuntarily forces the joint.
FUNCTION LIMITING THE FLEX-EXTENSION Like adduction, flexion-extension of the leg is also potentially risky. In particular, a marked flexion, as happens when passing from standing to sitting, could lead to dislocation. At that moment the brace opposes resistance and, through a proprioceptive feedback message, "reminds" the patient to avoid more extreme positions and to remain, for example, sitting on the front edge of the chair.
STRUCTURE IN AIRX FABRIC The structure of HipoCross must perform 2 functions at the same time: restraint on the one hand, and breathability on the other. AirX is a fabric obtained from the 3-dimensional weaving of a Polyester and Elastane thread, capable of creating a light weft, which is elastic. Thanks to its containment feature, it performs a valuable anti-edema function and promotes the reabsorption of the liquid that has already leaked. But it is also permeable to water, and therefore transpiring, an indispensable feature to allow correct healing of the surgical wound.
CRYOTHERAPY GEL AND HOUSING POCKET In the area immediately superimposed on the hip, a pocket has been prepared to house a cryotherapy device. It is a “gel pack” that the patient allows to cool in the freezer before placing in the pocket. The cold causes a vasoconstriction of the underlying vessels and promotes the reabsorption of the liquid already poured. The application of this gel, which does not come into direct contact with the skin but remains isolated from the tissue, is easy and practical.
VELCRO FRONT CLOSURES - The brace is easy to apply because its side bands "wrap" the patient's abdomen and close overlapping each other. The closure at the thigh works in the same way. Then just close the tie rods. This practicality and speed of application is useful both to the surgeon at the end of the operation, and to the patient during convalescence, when removing the brace for personal hygiene. It will be extremely easy to put it on again, keeping the adjustments decided by the surgeon unchanged.
STRIPS WITH 4 STACKED ELASTIC BANDS - The hip joint is known to be extremely strong. It is therefore clear that, in order to contain adduction and to limit flexion-extension of the leg, it is necessary to oppose with a proportional force, effective but gentle on the skin. To achieve this, 2 strong tie rods have been designed, which cross on the side, at the level of the trochanter. Each tie is made up of 4 overlapping elastic bands that are able to develop a quadrupled "opposition force" compared to the single elastic band
FIXED END OF THE TIE RODS, WITH ANTI-REMOVAL FUNCTION - The ends of the 2 tie rods, which adhere respectively to the velcro area of the lumbar area and the posterior velcro area of the thigh, are positioned by the surgeon immediately after the operation and do not need to be more removed. For this they have been equipped with a tab that prevent accidental removal.
MOBILE EXTREMITY OF THE TIE RODS, WITH COLORED TERMINAL - The movable ends of the 2 tie rods, which adhere to the front on the contralateral iliac crest and on the ipsilateral thigh, are equipped with a colored rubbery terminal which indicates the correct position (and therefore the correct crossing of the tie rods): orange terminal on the iliac crest, blue terminal on the thigh.
LATERAL AND ANTERO-LATERAL SUPPORT SPIRAL STICKS - There are 2: one is positioned vertically along the median line, just above the operated hip, the other surrounds the semicircular opening at the level of the groin. Their function is to keep the brace well extended and adherent to the body avoiding that, due to the strong tension exerted by the two tie rods, the brace migrates or annoying wrinkles form in the fabric.
RIGID ROD - OPTIONAL - In cases where the surgeon prescribes greater restraint of hip movements, both in adduction and in flexion-extension, an additional rod can be applied. It is a rigid rod to be applied externally to the brace, exactly above the housing of the spiral rod. Its presence strongly hinders the adduction (as an aid to the elastic tie rods) while its special joint blocks the extension at 0 ° and the flexion at 80 °.
