Dosage

Inulin

Inulin, a non-digestible oligosaccharide, is an excellent substrate for the colon microflora and has an excellent functional effect on gastrointestinal physiology and the immune system. It is metabolized by the microbial flora, favoring the growth of commensal species favorable to the physiological intestinal barrier function (such as Fecalibacterium prausnitzii). It determines an increase in the levels of butyric acid, essential fuel for the vitality of epithelial cells. It favors the production of mucus, the blocking of the invasion and adhesion of pathogenic bacteria, and the increase of the mucosal humoral defenses against them.

B. longum spp. longum and B. animalis spp. Lactis

I B. longum spp. longum and B. animalis spp. Lactis protect the elderly from the dysbiotic risk underlying the increased risk of frailty. Thanks to their properties, they safeguard the intestinal barrier from the effects of inflammatory chemokines, normalize the expression of occludin and claudin which represent the skeleton of cellular junctions, prevent the activation of the intracellular inflammatory cascade and therefore of a systemic inflammatory state. Furthermore, through the secretion of specific bacteriocins, they trigger multiple strain-specific activities, including immune modulation, the elimination of pathogenic enterobacteria, the stimulation of mucus production, the growth and maturation of enterocytes with a consequent improvement in intestinal permeability.

Polygonum cuspidatum (Resveratrol)

Polygonum cuspidatum (Resveratrol) acts as an antioxidant agent preventing the alteration at the base of the aging processes of intestinal permeability, stabilizing the intracellular cytoskeleton with a consequent stabilization of the epithelial junctions (tight-junctions) and the blocking of the activation of the inflammatory cascade .

Vitamin D & Folic Acid

Vitamin D and folic acid ensure adequate vitality and balance of the intestinal and systemic immune response, resulting in better control of the pathologies of the elderly linked to the alteration of mucosal permeability.

Vitamins of group B

B vitamins contribute to the normal energy metabolism of the intestinal barrier. They determine a protective effect and immediate re-epithelialization of the mucosa after damage or acute stress occurring at this level. They also prevent inflammatory and infectious phenomena that can affect the intestinal barrier of the elderly person, altering its function and modulate the functioning of immune cells and the neuroenteric system.
