Hyoscyamus Niger 9ch Boiron Homeopathic Medicine
Hyoscyamus niger, or henbane, is a sticky and fetid-smelling herb. Known in ancient times for its amazing properties when taken in large doses; it was used for poultices and concoctions in the Middle Ages by "witches". The active ingredients are mainly composed of alkaloids: hyoscyamine, atropine and scopolamine. The latter has hallucinogenic properties when taken in high doses. Scopolamine also has an anti-asthma action, for smooth muscle relaxation, and anti-neuralgic action. There is a similarity of pathogenetic effects of Hyosciamus with those of other Solanaceae such as Belladonna and Stramonium. Taking moderate doses initially causes a phase of arousal with spasms, followed by a phase of asthenic congestion and finally paralysis with coma. This sequence justifies the opposite symptoms in the pathogenesis, such as constipation and diarrhea, insomnia and somnolence, retention and incontinence.
Main indications
Hyoscyamus is indicated: in the insomnia of nervous children who wake up with a start screaming; in sleep disturbances with agitation, lustful dreams, phenomena of spasmophilia, seizures, sexual arousal; in the suspicious and jealous elderly who refuse treatment; in spasmodic cough that worsens at night and improves on sitting down, in hiccups and in major and severe infections.
Psychological characteristics of the patient
The patient has a profound alteration of the nervous system, due to two causes: a severe inflammation which makes it an indication for all septicemic fevers, and a neurasthenia due to intellectual over-menage, restlessness and lack of sleep. The ages most at risk are childhood (convulsions and agitation) because the nervous system is not yet well developed; old age, when you lose control of the psyche and depression even for small problems, takes on worrying proportions that exhaust the elderly. He has delusional ideas, pathological jealousy, he is quarrelsome. The Hyoscyamus patient cannot bear the sight of flowing water and can develop a real hydrophobia.
Symptoms and methods of reaction
He can experience tremors of the hands and feet, spasms and myoclonus, nervous laughter even in sleep. Aggravates: with emotions, at night lying down, with menstruation. Improves: sitting down (spasmodic cough).

In spasmodic cough that improves sitting down and worsens lying down, a 9 CH dilution is recommended to be taken in the evening and at the onset of attacks. In severe infections with adynamia, dryness of the oral mucosa, myoclonus, incontinence, delirium high dilutions such as 15 CH are preferable. With the advent of antibiotics, these cases have become rarer.
