L Mesitran Soft
Description
Class IIb medical device.
L-Mesitran Soft is a gel that contains: 40% medical grade honey, medical grade hypoallergenic lanolin (Medilan®), propylene glycol, PEG 4000 and vitamins C and E. When the gel comes into contact with the wound, the fluids are drawn from surrounding tissues by osmosis. In this way, an optimal moist environment is created for wound healing, stimulating the healing process of the same. The gel prepares the wound bed by facilitating the autolysis of necrotic material and other devitalized material and promoting better migration of epithelial cells.
- Thanks to the strong osmotic activity, L-Mesitran Soft has antimicrobial properties.
- The gel will gradually dilute and can be removed easily according to local wound cleansing protocols.
- L-Mesitran Soft is a primary wound dressing that can be covered with the most commonly used secondary dressings.
- The properties of the gel also help prevent adhesion of the secondary dressing to the wound bed.
- Being produced with natural ingredients, each batch of gel can vary in color (white - yellow - brown), maintaining its properties unchanged.
- The gel may contain sugar crystals, however this will not affect the effectiveness and/or application.
Indicated for:
- chronic wounds;
- pressure ulcers (Stage I-IV);
- venous stasis ulcers;
- fungal wounds (to help deodorize and/or debride);
- acute colonized wounds;
- surgical wounds;
- postoperative wounds;
- traumatic wounds (superficial wounds, cuts);
- small burns and laser wounds (superficial and partial thickness burns).
Components
Eco-honey, medilan, propylene glycol, PEG 4000 (macrogols), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), vitamin E (DL-alpha-tocopherol acetate).
Warnings
It is not suitable for:
- third degree burns;
- patients with a known sensitivity to honey or any other component;
- dirty, infected and heavily exuding wounds (must be cleaned first);
- narrow and deep cavities.
- Due to the low pH of the dressing, some patients may notice a slight transient burning sensation during application of the dressing. If burning persists and cannot be managed with an analgesic, remove dressing, clean area, and discontinue use.
- During initial use of the dressing (depending on the levels of wound exudate, interstitial fluid and edema surrounding the wound), the high osmolarity of the dressing may contribute to increased exudate. This can be managed by adjusting the frequency of dressing changes based on the level of exudate.
- Bacterial colonization in chronic wounds is always present and is not a contraindication to the use of L-Mesitran Soft.
- During the healing process, due to autolytic debridement, it is normal for the non-viable tissue removed from the wound to lead to a subsequent initial increase in the size of the wound. Although an initial increase in size may be attributed to normal removal of nonviable tissue, seek medical attention if the wound continues to enlarge after the first few dressing changes.
- After removing the dressing, if any material remains on the wound, clean the wound with a solution suitable for the treatment until it is removed without difficulty.
Consult a healthcare provider if you notice signs of infection, which may include increased redness, increased pain, increased wound drainage, increased skin irritation, and changes in the color and/or odor of the wound.
