Carbo vegetabilis is the charcoal obtained by calcification of preferably non-resinous white woods (willow, birch, poplar). It is used in the after-effects of debilitating diseases; dyspepsia from overeating and alcohol; acute or chronic respiratory failure.

Main indications

Carbo vegetabilis is indicated: at the level of the digestive system for fetid breath, for dyspepsia with supra-umbilical flatulence, for intolerance to fats, for vasomotor flushing of the face after taking even minimal quantities of alcohol; at the level of the circulatory system for problems deriving from venous stasis such as varicose veins in the lower limbs and for impaired coagulation such as burning leg ulcers with blackish blood leakage; at the respiratory level it integrates well the allopathic treatments in asthma and senile emphysema.

Psychological characteristics of the patient

There are two types of patients.
The first is the alcoholic subject, a strong dyspeptic eater, irritable and critical especially with the members of his own family.
The other is the elderly weakened by organic pathologies affecting the heart, liver or lungs; he is pale and cyanotic, apathetic, slow with a tendency to be easily discouraged.

Symptoms and methods of reaction

Internal burning and external cold; supra-umbilical meteorism; congestive flushing; extreme weakness.
Worsening with heat, with alcohol, with fatty foods.
Improvement by belching and fanning.

Dosage

For fetid breath, for dyspepsia with supra-umbilical flatulence, for intolerance to fats, administer 5 granules at the 5 CH dilution before meals.
For problems deriving from venous stasis, 5 granules at 7 CH dilution twice a day.
For respiratory disorders 5 granules per day at a dilution of 15 or 30 CH as a complement to the classic therapy.
