LATTOFERRIN is a multifunctional glycoprotein belonging to an important class of iron-chelating proteins called transferrin.
This protein occurs in high concentrations in milk and colostrum , as well as in various other secretions, in the plasma and in the granules of polymorphonuclear leukocytes that release it following various stimuli.
Lactoferrin, in addition to contributing directly to the defense of the host from bacterial and viral infections, is endowed with immunomodulatory , anti- inflammatory and antioxidative activity, regulates iron absorption and cell growth and possesses various enzymatic activities.

• Binds to the lipopolysaccharide of Gram-negative bacteria or the lipoteic acid of Gram-positive bacteria via lactoferricin, causing the bacterial cell to lysis
• It sequesters iron and prevents its use by bacteria, inhibiting its growth
• It inhibits bacterial adhesion and internalization
• It modulates cell death induced by bacterial infection
• Induces apoptosis via lactoferricin
• It performs a synergistic action with other antimicrobial compounds
• Increases the bactericidal activity of lysozyme and antibiotics
• It binds to specific viral structural and non-structural proteins, preventing their functioning or inhibiting their interaction with susceptible cells
• It binds to receptors or co-receptors for viruses present on the cell surface, inhibiting their attachment
• It is capable of increasing the systemic immune response against viral infection of any type including Covid19.
