How Lovol-esse works
Lovol-esse is a medical device with a laxative / purgative action based on macrogol 4000 and simethicone . The high dosage of Macrogol in the preparation makes Lovol-esse specifically indicated for a complete cleansing of the intestine , necessary for the preparation for some diagnostic tests (endoscopic or radiological examinations on the large intestine, such as colonoscopy and rectosigmoidoscopy , and ultrasound scans abdominal ) and other clinical conditions.
Lovol-esse is indicated: to obtain an optimal bowel cleansing . The removal of solid residues in the colon and rectum is essential in preparation for endoscopic, radiological and ultrasound examinations, in order to obtain greater diagnostic confidence.
Lovol-esse is an isotonic powder preparation for oral solution, based on Macrogol 4000, Simethicone and mineral salts .
What is Macrogol
Macrogol is a substance that, when combined with water, helps to keep the stool moist and soft, facilitating its transit in the intestine. High molecular weight macrogols are long linear chain polymers, which retain water molecules by means of hydrogen bonds. When administered orally, they lead to an increase in the volume of intestinal fluids. The volume of unabsorbed intestinal fluid determines the laxative properties of the solution. Furthermore, again due to its osmotic action, macrogol increases fecal volume and this stimulates intestinal motility through the neuromuscular system. The physiological consequence is a better propulsive advancement in the colon of softened stools and a facilitation of defecation. Macrogol is neither absorbed nor fermented in the intestine, it does not irritate the mucosa and is excreted in the faeces in an unmodified form.
Taken at the high doses contained in Lovol-Esse sachets, macrogol produces a strongly laxative and purgative effect, causing severe diarrhea.
What is Simethicone
Simethicone has the chemical-physical ability to lower surface tension; this property causes the gas bubbles present in the gastrointestinal tract to flow together, forming free gas, which is easily eliminated. This relieves all those annoying symptoms (pains, cramps, a sense of tension, belching, flatulence) that accompany the meteorism resulting from the high doses of Macrogol taken.
Mineral salts
The presence of citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium chloride and potassium chloride is intended to prevent electrolyte imbalances and acidosis that can result from severe diarrhea induced by the product. How to use The product is presented in envelopes whose contents are dissolved in water, for the preparation of an oral solution.
Method of use and dosage
Useful in the case of colonoscopy preparation but, it is advisable to always follow the prescriptions of the center where the endoscopic examination is carried out, which usually provide for a controlled dietary regime in the days preceding the examination.
As an indication, unless otherwise prescribed, the following doses are valid: pour the contents of 2 sachets into 1 liter of still water at room temperature, shake well and drink the homogeneous suspension within 1 hour / 1 hour and a half, possibly taking 250 ml of suspension every 10-15 minutes; the second phase involves the assumption, with the same previous methods, of another liter of water with 2 sachets of Lovol-Esse. The entire solution (2 liters in total with 4 sachets), which can be chilled (not frozen to make it more pleasant), should be taken in 3 hours.
How long does Lovol-esse take effect?
The evacuation begins approximately 2-3 hours after taking Lovol-esse.
Ingrediants
Macrogol 400, citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, simethicone, anti-caking agent (silicon dioxide), sweetener (acesulfame K), flavor (orange). Unsweetened.
Warnings
Do not add other ingredients to the reconstituted solution. The reconstituted solution should be consumed within 24 hours. The laxative solution causes diarrhea, so you will be able to pass body many times and with watery stools. Therefore during the bowel preparation stay close to a bathroom. The laxative solution also causes you to feel swollen and have intestinal pains or nausea.
It is advisable to strictly follow the information provided by the center where the endoscopic examination is carried out, which usually also include a controlled dietary regime in the days preceding the examination.
