Maca useful nutraceutical

The most interesting portion of the Maca is the tuber, which grows spontaneously in the Peruvian Andes at heights ranging between 3,000 and 4,000 meters in rather extreme climatic conditions. Despite this, the Maca tuber shows interesting nutritional and medicinal properties so as to define it in all respects as a nutraceutical product, that is, capable of having positive effects on human health by contributing to the functional balance of many systems of the organism. Cultivated since ancient times, maca has played a fundamental role in the diet of the Peruvian populations, so much so that it was considered by popular tradition a "gift from the gods". After the Spanish conquest it was also successfully introduced in Europe where it was appreciated for its positive effect on fertility and aphrodisiac properties.

Food composition

In the Maca tuber there are carbohydrates, proteins, as well as fibers, vitamins, mineral salts and other active ingredients, the presence of proteins means that there are an interesting share of essential amino acids (not synthesized by our body, therefore necessarily introduced with diet) Histidine (necessary in childhood) isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, valine, tryptophan. It is important to add that a correct protein synthesis requires all amino acids, while the lack of one or more of these substances can compromise it. The vitamin intake is mainly due to the vit. Warnings
