The petals contain isoquinoline alkaloids, mucilaginous substances and anthocyanins. It has sedative, antispasmodic, emollient and sudorific activity. It is used in insomnia, as a waning and analgesic.

Hop

Plant distributed in Europe, Asia and North America. A volatile alcohol has been isolated from the hop strobes which is believed to be partly responsible for the sedative activity.
