Mangosteen is the fruit of a tropical plant ( Garcinia mangostana L. ) native to Southeast Asia, in particular Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam and the Moluccan Islands.
For thousands of years the peoples of Asia have used this fruit to improve numerous health conditions in the form of potions, poultices and preparations of various kinds.
Mangosteen contains significant amounts of oligomeric proanthocyanidins, catechins, polysaccharides and sterols.
It is also rich in xanthones, polyphenolic substances that have aroused much interest.
The first isolated xanthone, mangosteen, showed antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

It does not contain allergens.
