Mapooro Magnum Medic Italia Food Supplement Orange Flavor

Food supplement with sweeteners based on mineral salts: magnesium and potassium. Orange flavor.

Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential element involved in over 300 metabolic processes1. In the human body 99% is concentrated within the cells and only 1% is found in the blood (1,2) . The greatest amount of this element is located in the bones, which contain about half of the total magnesium present in the whole body. The remainder is found within the striated muscles and in the soft tissues (nervous system, liver, heart and kidneys) 2 . Magnesium is essential for the health of the organism: it participates in the processes of mineralization and development of the skeletal system together with calcium, potassium and sodium and regulates the excitability of the nerve cell and muscle fiber. This mineral is also important for good cardiovascular function: participates in the regulation of heartbeat, blood pressure 1 , electrolyte balance and prevention of potassium losses; it also promotes vasodilation, demonstrating an antithrombotic and platelet aggregation effect. It is not always easy to diagnose a magnesium deficiency because this mineral is mainly present within the cells, so even if the measurement of serum magnesium (the only measurement that can normally be performed) is normal, the patient could suffer from an intracellular magnesium deficiency. For this reason it is necessary to carefully analyze the symptoms, to understand if the body suffers from a magnesium deficiency. The symptoms associated with a deficiency of this mineral are highlighted by: asthenia, fatigue, irritability, nervousness, anxiety and, in the case of intense physical activity, muscle weakness and cramps 5 . The main cause of magnesium deficiency is an incorrect diet associated with a hectic and stressful lifestyle. Stress and intense physical activity, in fact, contribute to consuming the body's stores of magnesium. The requirement of this mineral increases physiologically in some conditions, as happens for the elderly and pregnant women who have an increased daily requirement and often need additional supplementation.

Potassium

In the body, potassium exists in the form of a positive K + ion (cation) and is the most abundant inorganic ion within cells, where it is transported by mechanisms that require an energy supply. The concentration of K + ions in the blood is regulated to have minimal fluctuations, since concentrations that are too high (hyperkalemia) or too low (hypokalaemia) can have serious repercussions especially on the heart and nerves 1 . The role of potassium, together with sodium, is to maintain the water balance inside the cells and maintain a correct alkalinity of the body fluids. It also regulates the passage of nutrients to the cells, the transmission of electrochemical impulses and therefore nerve conduction, muscle contraction, heart rate and blood pressure (2,3,4) . Potassium is found in numerous foods such as: beans, dried peas, asparagus, potatoes, apricots, bananas, cauliflower, spinach and grapefruit. Its absorption occurs passively in the duodenum and is eliminated mainly in the urine. Large amounts of potassium can be eliminated through the kidneys without risking intoxication and cases of excessive potassium are mainly due to renal failure, dehydration or insufficient adrenal secretion. On the contrary, in the case of an unbalanced diet, and therefore of a lack of potassium, hypokalaemia can occur, as the body eliminates an almost constant amount of potassium every day.
Generally, a potassium deficiency is unlikely to occur if you eat a balanced diet. Cases of potassium deficiency are linked to particular situations such as: excessive losses via the gastrointestinal tract (prolonged vomiting, chronic diarrhea, abuse of laxatives) or urinary (use of diuretics, some types of chronic nephropathy and metabolic disorders, such as diabetic acidosis).
Potassium deficiency causes an alteration of the electrophysiological phenomena of cell membranes and consequently muscle fatigue, nausea, inattention, apprehension, drowsiness, behavioral changes and cardiac arrhythmia.
Even sportsmen, following intense and prolonged physical activity, can experience hypokalaemia due to excessive sweating. The intake of some drugs, such as diuretics, cortisone, prolonged use of aspirin and laxatives, can cause potassium depletion5. A low potassium level can be determined in a blood test and treated by taking supplements.
