ANTIBACTERIAL DRESSING
MEDIHONEY
Sterile, non-adherent wound dressing composed of Medihoney Honey Antibacterial (80% w / w) and sodium alginate for wound care (20% w / w).
It can be used for both mildly and moderately exuding wounds. Its effects are:
- promote wound healing, creating a moist environment and reducing trauma and pain when replacing the bandage;
- create an effective antibacterial barrier that inhibits bacterial growth including strains resistant to antibiotics, thus reducing the risk of infections;
- Promote a fast, effective and autolytic debridement of slough and necrotic tissue and the rapid removal of bad odors.

The osmotic action produces the leakage of body fluid which contributes to the removal of bacteria, endotoxins, debris and slough from the wound and, therefore, to the cleaning of the wound and captures the debris in the antibacterial micro environment of the dressing, inhibiting the bacteria that can cause bad odors. The processes of granulation and epithelialization are favored by the environment by the optimal healing environment.
USE
1. Protect vulnerable wound edges with a suitable barrier cream such as "Medihoney Barrier Cream".
2. Remove the wrap before applying to the wound.
3. Place the dressing on the wound surface ensuring that the dressing is in contact with the wound bed. Dressings can be placed side by side to cover large wounds or, for deep wounds, multiple layers can be used. Alternatively, it is possible to fill the wound with Medihoney MieleAntibacterico, before covering it with "Medihoney Foglio Gel". A non-adherent sterile gauze or bandage should be applied to cover the Medihoney dressing.The dressing must be sufficiently absorbent to handle wound exudate.
4. The wound can be cleaned, between dressings, in accordance with standard wound cleaning protocol.
The Medihoney dressing should be cut with sterile scissors prior to application to the wound. Frequency of change: Medihoney vasubstituted dressing when the medicating agent is gelled and diluted with exudate. The dressing can be left in place for up to 7 days depending on the exudate. If maceration of surrounding skin occurs, more frequent dressing replacement is required.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not use on individuals who have had an allergic reaction to honey or sodium alginate.
WARNINGS
- Due to the properties of honey some patients may experience an annoying stinging sensation after application. Which, however, will improve over time.
If the level of discomfort is unacceptable, remove the dressing and wash the affected area.
- This product works best for both mildly and moderately exuding wounds.
- It should be used with caution and under close observation on heavily exuding wounds, arterial ulcers or heavy bleeding.
- Not recommended for use in body cavities.
- In case of slow or no healing, the treatment regimen should be reviewed.
