It cannot be missing in your beach bag.
Medugel is a compound based on aluminum chloride, with an astringent and anti-itching action, and aloe gel and calendula fluid extract, with a soothing action. Medugel has a calming action on itching due to contact (sting) with jellyfish.
Aluminum chloride, thanks to its astringent action, is the optimal treatment in cases of contact with the stinging tentacles of jellyfish, as it blocks the penetration of the toxin, thus limiting pain and burning.
Recommended use
Apply an adequate amount of gel to the area to be treated and massage slowly. In case of contact with eyes or mucous membranes, rinse with fresh water.
Product description sheet
1) DOES THE MEDUSA STITCH?
No, the jellyfish does not sting, nor does it bite. Its tentacles emit a stinging substance to the skin, which causes painful skin irritation, swelling and redness. To have this skin reaction, it is not necessary to be touched by the jellyfish: you just need to come into contact with the stinging liquid that it releases through its filaments.
2) WHAT DO YOU FEEL IN CONTACT WITH THE MEDUSA?
At the first contact between the skin and the jellyfish, the baby feels a strong burning and pain. Immediately afterwards, the skin becomes irritated, red, and small wheals (swelling of the skin) appear, such as hives. The burning sensation begins to subside after 10-20 minutes. Then the baby begins to feel intense itching. If an area larger than 50% of the child's body is affected, the intensity of pain and burning can become unbearable.
3) WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF CONTACT?
The first thing to do is to calm the baby and let him breathe normally. If you are close to the shore, get him out of the water. If you are offshore, support the child and call attention to get help, especially if the companion has also come into contact with the jellyfish. First check that there are no parts of jellyfish stuck to the skin and, if necessary, remove them gently with your hands or better with a credit card type card. If you do not have medicines, it may be useful to run sea water on the affected part to try to dilute the toxic substance that has not yet penetrated.
4) HOW SHOULD THE IRRITATED PART BE CURED?
The correct dressing consists in the application of astringent gel with aluminum chloride (ed. MEDUGEL). The astringent gel has an immediate anti-itch action and blocks the spread of toxins. Unfortunately, it is not yet common in Italy to carry this gel with you, which is also useful for mosquito or bee bites.
5) WHAT NOT TO DO IF YOU ARE TOUCHED BY THE STRIKING TENTACLES OF A JELLYFISH:
Avoid scratching or rubbing the sand on the painful area. And do not use impromptu dressings with ammonia, vinegar, alcohol or lemon juice: they would make the situation worse. 6) WHEN SHOULD YOU WORRY?
If immediately after contact, the skin reaction spreads and breathing difficulties, paleness, sweating and disorientation appear, call 118 and explain what it is: you will receive instructions on what to do while waiting for the emergency room staff. ) WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?
The area of skin affected by the jellyfish remains sensitive to sunlight and tends to darken quickly. To prevent the skin from becoming stained, it is good to avoid antihistamine ointments and it is necessary to keep the affected area covered, or well protected by a sunscreen, until the inflammatory reaction disappears (no more than two weeks).
