Mepitel Absorbent Safetac 15X15cm

Mepitel® is a gentle bilateral wound contact layer with Safetac®, the original adhesive silicone contact layer that minimizes pain. It is designed to gently adapt to the skin without sticking to the moist wound. In this way it can be removed easily without damaging the skin. This means less pain for patients. Safetac also protects the new tissue and intact skin, without disturbing the wound and accelerating its natural healing.

It also seals the edges of the wound to protect the skin from leaking exudate and maceration. Perforated design lets exudate pass over a secondary absorbent dressing. Plus, you can leave it in place, easily administering topical treatments. Dressing integrity reduces the need for frequent primary dressing changes and allows for secondary dressing changes without disturbing healing.

Mepitel with Safetac protects the wound and the skin. It is designed to treat a wide range of wounds such as skin lacerations, skin abrasions, sutured wounds, partial thickness burns, lacerations, partial and full thickness grafts, diabetic ulcers and venous and arterial ulcers. Mepitel can also be used as a protective layer on non-exuding wounds, blisters, fragile skin and exposed fragile tissues.

The open structure of Mepitel allows, where clinically indicated, the passage of topical ointments on the wound. It is possible to use Mepitel with Mesorb® or, for heavily exuding wounds, with Mextra®Superabsorbent, with Tubifast® fixation and also under compression bandages. Mepitel can also be used in conjunction with negative wound pressure therapy (NPWT).

Characteristics

  • Undisturbed healing, can remain applied for up to 14 days 10
  • Mepitel was clinically effective in healing burns faster and with less pain and associated costs than silver sulfadiazine. 3
  • It leaves no residue and retains its functional qualities over time
  • Excellent transparency, to allow assessment of the progression of healing without removing the contact layer

How to use

Mepitel can be used by non-experts under the supervision of healthcare professionals.

  • Cleanse the wound with saline or water, in accordance with your usual protocols e
    dry the periwound skin well.
  • Choose Mepitel according to the size of the wound and to cover at least 2 cm of skin beyond the edges of the wound. If necessary, Mepitel can be cut.
  • Remove the longer side of the protective film first and then the shorter side. Moisten the gloves to prevent Mepitel from sticking to them.
  • Apply Mepitel to the wound and remove the remaining protective film. Apply Mepitel on the
periwound skin to ensure good adherence. If necessary, use more than one Mepitel dressing, overlapping the edges of the dressings, without blocking the pores.
  • Apply a secondary dressing with absorbent pad over Mepitel. In anatomical areas that are difficult to medicate or in joint areas (e.g. axillary cavity, below
breast, elbow hollow, groin, deep wounds), make sure the dressing
applied is sufficient to keep Mepitel well adherent to the wound surface.
  • Secure with a suitable fastening device.

Mepitel can be used under compression bandages. Mepitel can be used in conjunction with a negative pressure therapy system (NPWT). Mepitel can be used in combination with gels. When the external absorbent pad dressing is saturated, it should be replaced with Mepitel in place.

Mepitel can be left in place for up to 14 days, depending on the condition of the wound and surrounding skin or as indicated by clinical practice. To prevent maceration, exudate must pass freely through the dressing and the holes must not be closed. When Mepitel is used in conjunction with Negative Pressure Therapy (NPWT) systems, follow your physician's directions for how often to change the dressing. Its disposal must be carried out in accordance with local environmental protection procedures.
