The Mepilex® Border Sacrum all-in-one dressing is the only five-layer foam dressing molded for the sacral area with proprietary Deep Defense Technology ™ proven to prevent pressure ulcers when used in combination with other standard prevention protocols.

The shape of the dressing also creates an optimal healing environment to manage moderately to heavily exuding sacral wounds. It effectively absorbs and retains exudate by adequately balancing humidity and avoiding the risk of maceration.

The new improved design includes new application tabs and thicker edges, allowing for easier application and patient control. For the prevention of pressure ulcers, the sacral shape has been refined to allow good coverage of the high-risk sacral area, with better sealing of the buttocks and optimal protection.

When to use Mepilex Border Sacrum

Treatment

Mepilex® Border Sacrum is designed for moderately to heavily exuding sacral wounds, such as pressure ulcers or surgical excisions of pilonidal cysts. The dressing maintains a moist environment and promotes wound debridement; an initial extension of the lesion size may be noted. This is normal and to be considered.

Prevention of pressure ulcers

A recent randomized controlled trial conducted in the United States revealed a statistically significant effect of Mepilex® Border Sacrum in reducing the incidence of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers by 88%. The dressing can be applied prophylactically in patients at risk, such as immobilized patients, patients with poor skin perfusion and impaired skin condition, patients in the emergency room, in the ICU or before and during lengthy surgeries. Several scientific studies have shown that Mepilex Border Sacrum is able to influence four external factors that can contribute to the development of pressure ulcers, reducing and redistributing the shear force, redistributing pressure, reducing friction and maintaining an ideal microclimate.
