COMPOSITION: D-glucosamine sulphate, shark cartilage extract (titrated at 90% in chondroitin sulfate), Klamath microalgae (Aphanizomenon flos aquae).

PROPERTIES: Glucosamine is an essential ingredient of cartilage and healthy joints normally produce a sufficient amount. It is an amino-monosaccharide present in chitin and glycosaminoglycans such as hyaluronic acid, keratan sulfate and heparan sulfate. Chondroitin sulfate also belongs to the family of glycosaminoglycan heteropolysaccharides or GAGS (once called mucopolysaccharides). In the form of proteoglycans, they form the basic substance of the extracellular matrix of the connective tissue. Proteoglycans are high molecular weight glycoproteins and contain different types of heteropolysaccharide side chains covalently linked to a polypeptide backbone. These chains, which include hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate in the isomers A, B, C, heparan sulfate, etc., represent up to 95% of the proteoglycan structure. These constituents are vital for the structure and function of the joint cartilage, giving it that shock-absorbing property. In the process of degenerative diseases of the joints, a decrease in the synthesis of proteoglycans is noted which leads to a lower elasticity of the cartilage with the onset of pain and other symptoms that accompany osteoarthritis. Chondroitin sulfate together with glucosamine, administered orally, reaching the cartilage tissue improve its viscosity. It appears that glucosamine arriving in the joints could inhibit the enzymes involved in the breakdown of cartilage and increase the production of hyaluronic acid. The Klamath seaweed was added to enhance the effect of the preparation as it is capable of rebalancing the digestive functions and the activities of the immune system, both of which are contributory causes of disorders and degenerative diseases affecting the osteoarticular system.

INDICATIONS: Chondroitin sulfate administered orally together with glucosamine is indicated in the treatment and prevention of osteoarthritis. Even in the acute phase characterized by inflammation and pain, their intake was particularly effective. OsteofitPlus, in particular, thanks to the simultaneous presence of Klamath algae, can be used in arteriosclerosis and as an adjuvant for the recovery and regeneration of joint function.

Precautions, Undesirable Effects, Interactions: The reported side effects for glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate such as heartburn, epigastric pain and diarrhea, are particularly attenuated in OsteofitPlus, thanks to the presence of AFA. Diabetic and obese individuals with glucose intolerance problems should keep their blood sugar levels under control as glucosamine can increase insulin resistance.

HOW TO USE: The recommended dosage is 1 capsule or tablet per day, as the ministry requires a prodi dosage of glucosamine equal to 250 mg. In the most severe osteoarthritis the dosage can go up to 4 capsules. Different posologies may be recommended by the pharmacist or doctor.
