Nurvast is an annurca apple-based supplement for cholesterol control conceived and developed following some studies conducted by the Pharmacy Department of the University of Naples Federico II.

Each pack contains 30 gastroprotected capsules.

The Nurvast anti-cholesterol supplement was born from a study by the University of Naples Federico II coordinated by the Department of Pharmacy and by prof. Ettore Novellino. Nurvast is based on dry extract of Annurca apple (or Melannurca), a variety of apple typically from Campania that has shown strong anti-cholesterol properties, but not only.

Nurvast has a dual action: on the one hand it reduces the average levels of total cholesterol and LDL (the "bad" cholesterol), on the other hand it stimulates the production of HDL cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol). It is indicated for the treatment of mild and moderate hypercholesterolemia (up to 260 mg / dl), but it is also recommended for people with low HDL levels (below 55 mg / dl) or patients with borderline values who have some risks such as smoking, alcohol, hypertension, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle.

Annurca apple and anti-cholesterol properties

Nurvast has been on the market since February 20, 2017. It is an anti-cholesterol nutraceutical developed with the same procedure used for the creation of a new drug. In the case of Nurvast, however, a synthetic molecule was not used as the active ingredient, but a completely natural phytocomplex.

This phytocomplex is composed exclusively of a dry extract of Annurca apple, a variety of apple typically from Campania (marked with the Protected Geographical Indication, PGI mark).

The study coordinated by prof. Novellino highlighted the anti-cholesterol qualities of the annurca apple. In fact, it is rich in procyanidins, which is a family of antioxidants that apples produce to defend themselves against parasites, including pathogenic fungi. Given the hostility of Campania's volcanic soil, Annurche apples produce a higher quantity of procyanidins than other apple varieties.
This special production of procyanidins is also linked to the ripening process of Annurche apples: they are harvested before they are ripe. To complete the maturation they remain "on the ground" for about a month. This peculiar process gives the annurca apple an extra edge from the point of view of beneficial properties for health.
